ACRHK Strongly Condemning the Political Trial and Persecution of Jimmy Lai and Apple Daily Defendants by the Hong Kong Communist Regime
一、要求港共政權立即釋放黎智英及是次審判之全部被告,以及所有在港被囚之政治犯;
二、持續關注並公開譴責香港人權狀況之急劇惡化;
三、對參與是次政治迫害之法官、檢控官及相關官員實施針對性制裁,包括資產凍結及入境禁令;

Assembly of Citizens’ Representatives, Hong Kong
The Assembly of Citizens’ Representatives, Hong Kong issues its strongest condemnation of the Hong Kong Communist regime’s sentencing of Jimmy Lai to 20 years’ imprisonment under the National Security Law, alongside sentences ranging from 6 years and 9 months to 10 years for other Apple Daily executives and civil society figures. This constitutes a quintessential political trial that fully exposes the complete collapse of judicial independence in Hong Kong.
This Assembly solemnly points out that this trial exhibits the hallmarks of CCP style “cooperation of three powers” (三權合作): the executive, legislative, and judicial branches working in seamless coordination to serve the political objective of suppressing dissent. The court functions merely as a rubber stamp for the regime’s will; the so called “trial according to law” serves only as a fig leaf for political persecution. The “crimes” of Jimmy Lai and the defendants amount to nothing more than exercising the fundamental human rights of press freedom and freedom of expression.
This Assembly further condemns the authorities’ despicable tactics to obstruct public access to the courtroom, constituting severe violations of civil rights: deliberately “missing” queuing members during registration; arresting citizens for carrying Apple Daily keychains; forcing members of the public to leave the queue for media interviews, then using registration “mistakes” as pretext to deny their return to the queue; and providing extremely short notice of the sentencing date to catch the public off guard. All these measures serve as irrefutable evidence of attempts to prevent citizens from witnessing this political persecution. The principle of open justice has been utterly destroyed, and Hong Kong stands but one step away from secret trials.
This verdict once again confirms the complete bankruptcy of “One Country, Two Systems” and the total failure of civil rights guaranteed under the Basic Law. When journalism becomes grounds for conviction, when queuing for a public hearing becomes cause for arrest, when carrying a newspaper logo constitutes a crime, Hong Kong has become indistinguishable from authoritarian rule on the Mainland.
This Assembly calls upon the international community to:
1. Demand the Hong Kong Communist regime immediately release Jimmy Lai, all defendants in this trial, and all political prisoners in Hong Kong;
2. Continue monitoring and publicly condemning the rapid deterioration of human rights in Hong Kong;
3. Impose targeted sanctions, including asset freezes and travel bans, on judges, prosecutors, and officials involved in this political persecution;
4. Provide asylum and support for persecuted Hong Kong journalists and civil society members.
Press freedom must never be strangled; political prisoners must be released. The Assembly of Citizens’ Representatives, Hong Kong shall continue to stand alongside overseas Hong Kong communities and international allies, fighting to the end for freedom and democracy in Hong Kong.
